Notes for an Already Existing Intranet:

Let's say you already have an intranet and downloaded IBX just to try out a few of our site templates like the main intranet site, department sites, or project sites.

In the following image, notice the feature stapler is active. If that's the case for you as well, you will notice that regardless of whether you create one of our sites or even a site that is out of the box SharePoint, certain things are always present: a Global Top Nav bar, a Top Banner, several lists (like sysSiteInfo, xNav, etc.), and a side menu. That's what the feature stapler does!

You might want to turn it off if you want to stop this behavior. Just go to Central Admin/Site Settings/Manage Farm Features. Then locate the SPI Intranet Feature Stapler and hit Deactivate.

Footnotes

SharePoint development industry is rising and growing by leaps and bounds. In a radical way, and from the point of view of continuous improvement, it makes perfect sense to develop an already capable software. Not only does it help you escalate the value of the resources already invested, it also gives you a fresh unique approach.

SharePoint in itself covers a huge area. To develop it further and increase the value and usage multifold will demand experts. It requires an in-depth understanding of all the aspects of the product, the required skills to present a much advanced version, and the will to commit fully to the task with a passion.

SharePoint Developers can vouch from experience that there is so much hardware to run while building, updating or developing a site that to gain leverage from the multiple advanced features of SharePoint, it is necessary to have that ability, skill and visualization. The main objective the SharePoint Developers have to keep in mind apart from the technology or art required here is the customer expectation. To give an efficient result by SharePoint development, the SharePoint Developers have to understand the needs of the organization and the reason for the change to always offer much more than they usually owned, and an apt justification for the new investment of resources and time.

Once the key points are clear and defined, only then the technical skill and knowhow of the developer comes into picture. Understanding of multiple formats, languages and frameworks is necessary. Apart from that, they should be proficient in standard code languages like Visual Basic or C# or ASP.NET. A thorough understanding of CSS, HTML, and XML is also required to write specific codes and assemble all the unique advanced features offered by SharePoint.

It might be inferred as an unimportant point, but apart from the technical and analytical skills, patience is a key requirement in a developer. SharePoint development consists of multiple step by step activities combined with hard work on a technological platform. Configuration of a page layout, writing a solution code, design work flow, testing, deployment, implementation and also solving the configuration or access control issues demand a lot of attention and commitment.

Another prime concern is debugging. The platform is very complex and the most frequently encountered problems are the ones related to performance. Multiple moving parts on the SharePoint platform like indexing statistics and performance counters demand an undivided attention. Also the ever-active traffic logs, server logs and application logs make the problem tracking a little exhausting.

Much of the issue can be solved if the correct tools and templates are chosen for the task. There are many efficient tools available which will help with the task at hand and get the site up and running in minimum time. If partnered with a good virtual management, you might have less issues and more time in your hands for an effective result. It is about collaboration of different aspects and teams to produce a great software. Of course there are many options to choose from. SharePoint demos offered in abundance almost everywhere will solve that problem too, helping you make an informed decision.
