Check What Got Installed:

1. Farm Features: (In Central Administration, go to System Settings/Manage Farm Features)

a. SPI Intranet Feature Stapler: Whenever a new site is created, regardless of whether the template came from IBX or from default SharePoint, the feature stapler creates and populates several lists automatically. Please note that this process has been tested with the following sites: blogs, teams, and team workspace. If you see an OOTB (Out of the Box) template that doesn't work, please let us know. MAKE SURE YOU DEACTIVATE THE FEATURE STAPLER IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR OOTB SHAREPOINT SITE TEMPLATES TO AUTOMATICALLY GET IBX FEATURES!!!

These lists get created automatically: TopBanner (picture library to store your top banner images), SysQuickLaunch (for the side menu), sysSiteInfo (for site categorization).

b. SPI License Manager: Handles your trial and full versions of IBX (read more: Update Your License).

2. Solution Files: (In Central Administration, go to System Settings/Manage Farm Solutions)

a. spi.common.wsp: Deployed globally.

b. spi.webparts.wsp: Deployed per web application. If you add new web apps, you'll have to deploy this manually (see section Special Steps for Multiple Web Apps).

3. web.config: This file gets updated with a new entry into the siteMap section (DONE AUTOMATICALLY AFTER YOU CREATE YOUR FIRST SITE COLLECTION). This is used to make the Global Top Nav work (per web app). In our case below, the web.config is located in the directory (locate yours in your IIS settings): C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\SP201080

4. The SPIConfig.xml file is located in the "14 hive" directory for SharePoint 2010 user and the "15 hive" directory for SharePoint 2013 users. It is updated AFTER each site collection is created (the 14 hive is typically located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\SPI\Config). This file allows each site collection to have its own top nav -OR- use our global navigation which is contained in a single list called xNav.

5. 5 site definitions are available while you are creating site collections via Central Admin (to see this, go to Application Management and choose Create Site Collections).

When you request a SharePoint 2010 demo, make sure that the person demoing his product shows you document access control which is a feature that allows you to control who can access your document or information. Some SharePoint intranet examples show this.

The best SharePoint portal will offer a solution on Mobile devices, thus allowing you to access your environment while travelling out of the office or while in client meetings.

Good SharePoint 2010 intranet examples have Shared Calendars which enable you to conduct brainstorming sessions, so everyone can be part of the discussion when their schedule permits.

Centralized announcement management allows one to post an announcement on the corporate wall and everyone gets an alert or notification regarding the same anywhere in the world. Definitely a great practice in only the best SharePoint portal like IBX.

Another feature you might ask about in SharePoint intranet examples, is what happens when you would like to work on a file, discuss anything, add/update contacts, calendars, tasks, etc., one does need not to be online. You can carry out your changes offline and later when the intranet is connected to the data can be synced without any extra headache.

Another feature in SharePoint 2010 intranet examples are "Centralized document", so everyone can work on this when they can. When the user clicks on the sync button, the changes are available to everyone and at last all changes are merged together. This is a good test of a SharePoint 2010 demo.

Microsoft Access as used in intranet software can be integrated to pull data from desktop into your web application. Good feature in SharePoint intranet examples. Where you can sync your information centrally from anywhere.

A SharePoint Dashboard is another feature to boast about in SharePoint as Intranet; its sophisticated dashboards allows one to arrange information, filter it on common elements like project task, documents, issues, calendars, milestone, risks, change orders , KPI’s etc. Ask about this in a SharePoint 2010 demo.

What Should you expect in SharePoint 2010 Intranet Examples? Let's have a look at the best SharePoint portal and why one should think of using SharePoint as intranet for their organization.

An organization has tremendous knowledge which needs to be managed efficiently in intranet software otherwise it would require rework for them, resulting in duplicated efforts, redundant cost, etc. Consider a scenario where user A has created a knowledge artifact and User B does not know anything about it and recreates a similar document, which is nothing but a waste of effort, time and cost. Unable to access or find information promptly, this could be another reason why people started looking for a better solution like SharePoint. If we extend this same example so User B could have searched for the document which was prepared by User A hence saving lots of time. This is a perfect use of intranet software and is a perfect example of why use SharePoint as intranet.
